William ‘Grissom’ Petersen is Leaving CSI!

Crime Scene Investigation is losing its cast members one by one. And too bad this is not losing a crime that can be solved.

After Jorja Fox who played Sara Sidle left the show last season, Gary Dourdan’s misdemeanor made him ‘got killed’ in the season finale, latest sad news is that William Petersen, who played the show’s main character Gil Grissom, will be leaving too.

Confirmed by the show’s executive producer, Carol Mendelsohn, “Billy is leaving. But he will remain throughout the run of the series an executive producer. And he will, whenever CBS asks, come back. I don’t think you’ve seen the last of Gil Grissom”. His last appearance is on this season’s 10th episode, as a full-time series regular.

Petersen has joined CSI for about eight year, and he actually kinda hesitate to be talking about his ‘departure’. “I’m in a great place in terms of knowing that I’ll be more free to make choices. And I’m responsible enough to not do it in a way that would hurt [the show].”, he said.

Then he also added, “I want it to work for the writers, I want it to work for the cast, and, most importantly, I want it to work for the audience. I don’t want them to abandon the show”.

The show will be facing a hard time, because losing three of its original cast members in a year’s time. About the situation, Mendehlson said, “This will be a year of transition for the show. We always knew it was coming, and I’m glad it didn’t come until now.”

At this point, she’s confident that CSI is a franchise that can survive such cast shifts, just like what happened to other series like Law & Order or ER. “There’s never going to be another William Petersen, and there will never be another Jorja Fox,” she added.

Very true, there won’t be other Grissom or other Sara. This news will be a heartbreaker for those who love CSI, and especially Grissom’s fans. It’s just won’t be the same without Grissom solving all those crimes… Sad sad sad!
