The most watched talent show on TV, American Idol, will lose one of its masterminds, Nigel Lythgoe.

On Monday, The American Idol executive producer announced in a statement, “I will step back from my day-to-day producing work on American Idol and will be devoting my time to a new development venture with 19 Entertainment head and fellow Idol mastermind Simon Fuller”.

59-year-old Lythgoe, who is now one of the judges on So You Think You Can Dance, will occupied with the new show, as he said, “Due to the huge success of So You Think You Can Dance, my summer will be taken up by travels to South Africa, Australia and Canada to work on local versions of the show”.

The news has been confirmed by the company, with fellow producer Simon Fuller calling Lythgoe “the best producer I have ever worked with.” Although Fox (as the show’s network) is “disappointed”, but they wished the former dancer-coreographer well.

A rep for Fox television also added, “He is an extraordinarily talented producer whose creative contributions to the No. 1 show on television have been immeasurable”.

Lythgoe’s replacement has not been discussed, while American Idol has already startedĀ its eighth season’s audition. Hopefully, Lythgoe’s decision is the best for everyone. Good luck mate!
