Katy Perry is Tying The Beatles With “I Kissed a Girl”!
American singer Katy Perry was not only kissed a girl, but she also kissed an outstanding accomplishment!
The hit song “I Kissed a Girl” led Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart for a seventh week last Thursday, tying the Beatles to become the longest-running No. 1 in the rock era for the singer’s Capitol Records label.
In 1964, The Fab Four ruled for seven weeks with the perky song, “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Perry was previously tied at No. 2 with the Knack’s 1979 song “My Sharona.” If her song can hang on for three more weeks, it will tie rapper Flo Rida’s “Low” as the second longest-running No. 1 of 2008.
But the road is not perfectly smooth for Perry. “Forever” by R&B heartthrob Chris Brown managed to climb up to No. 2, and “Disturbia” from Barbados beauty Rihanna was also up one notch to number 3 spot. Another Rihanna’s hit, “Take A Bow” followed in No. 4, while Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” rounds up the Top 5. That’s not some easy competitors she got there.
The 23-year-old singer who changed her last name Hudson to her mother’s maiden name Perry (’cos she thinks sounded pretty close to actress Kate Hudson), reached her mainstream successfulness when her song entitled “Ur So Gay” hit the market with funny lyrics and unique video, even though it rose many controversial opinions about being homophobic.
Her first official single was “I Kissed A Girl”, taken from her debut album “One of the Boys”. The single was released on late 2007, while the full album was released on June 2008. She soon became a phenomenon and build a large fanbase, that goes along with the controversy.
Well, no matter what, hope you’re gonna break the record! Keep the No. 1 spot as long as you can, Go Katy!
