Just days after a rep for comedian Chris Kattan confirmed the couple’s separation but no plans for a divorce, the news had turned worse.

The former SNL star filed for legal separation from his wife of less than two months, model Sunshine Tutt. Looking back, the pair were happily married June 28 in Yosemite Valley, after three years of dating. Kattan and Tutt became engaged on Christmas Eve 2006, where he proposed to her at Tutt’s grandmother’s home in Gainesville, Texas. So sweet, but so short lasted.

According to court papers filed last Thursday by Kattan, the pair separated on August 10 due to “irreconcilable differences”. Kattan’s filing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (8/22), indicates the pair have a prenuptial agreement. And by filing for separation instead of divorce, this 37-year-old comedian is leaving the door open for a reunion with Tutt, but is indicating the pair intend to live separate lives for the time being.

Kattan had appeared on “SNL” from 1996 to 2003, where his recurring known characters included Mr. Peepers, Kyle DeMarco from The DeMarco Brothers, Gay Hitler, and, most notably, one half of the ‘Butabi Brothers’ with fellow SNL cast member Will Ferrell, known for their trademark head-bobbing.

Kattan had also seen in the big screen, include “Corky Romano” and 1998’s “A Night at the Roxbury,” where he and Ferrell continued the characters of their ‘Butabi Brothers’ from SNL.

May the separation worked as a bridge to finally strengthen the couple’s relationship. I mean… come on, only after two months? Work harder both!
