Stand Up For Cancer
Last Friday, September 5th, is a remarkable day to remember, as so many stars joined in a tremendous event “Stand Up For Cancer”, and succeeded to gain more than $100 million to donate. Wow!
“Stand Up For Cancer” telethon was participated by hundreds of famous names; from actresses, singers, athletes, and even journalists. Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Meryl Streep, David Cook, Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, America Ferrera, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, Forrest Whitaker, Jimmy Fallon, and Keanu Reeves are among the names from actor and actress’s list.
In the sports field, represented by former NBA star Charles Barkley and Olympic-winner Michael Phelps.
In the show who was co-emceed by rival network news anchors Katie Couric (known for her cancer awareness since the death of her late husband because of colon cancer), Charles Gibson and Brian Williams, celebrities who are cancer survivors such as Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong also appeared and helped to answer people’s calls in the celebrity phone bank.
The most anticipated performance is the premiere of “Just Stand Up” – the star studded charitable single in support of “Stand Up To Cancer” that was performed by legendary recording artists Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes, and Carrie Underwood. Woohoo! Amazing 15 singers joined forces, just like we reported a few weeks ago.
“On behalf of the Stand Up To Cancer leadership team, we are tremendously grateful to everyone who contributed to make this historic event a success”, said Lisa Paulsen, head of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the charitable organization behind Stand Up to Cancer. “This money will go directly to funding the research programs necessary to defeat this insidious disease”.
