Daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, and also a champion boxer of her own, Laila Ali, welcomed a son, as she announced Thursday on her website. Curtis Muhammad Conway, Jr. was born on August 26 and weighed in at 6.8 pounds.

The boy is named after his father, former Bears receiver Curtis Conway, and got his middle name from -who else?- his grandfather, the great Muhammad Ali. The couple got married July last year, and Conway is seven years older than Ali. Conway spent the better part of his football career playing for Chicago in the 1990s. Conway, Jr. is the couple’s first child.

“Mama and baby are resting!” said Ali on her website, where she blogged throughout her pregnancy. She actually had planned to have a natural, home birth, but in a statement by Ali’s publicist, Thea Ellis, “there were some surprises during labor that altered Laila’s birth plan”. Ellis declined to elaborate, though.

30-year-old Laila Ali is a professional boxer and decorated champion in her own right, owns a ring record of 24-0 with 21 knockouts and is considered the world’s top female boxer. She has also became a television celebrity, as a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” and host of “American Gladiator”.

With a 66-year-old amazing grandfather (despite battling Parkinson’s disease), Muhammad Ali, also with a boxer mom and a footballer dad, who knows that Conway, Jr. might be following one of his parents or grandpa’s footsteps. Who knows he could be a legend too, right? We’ll see in the upcoming years. Congrats new parents!
