Ellen DeGeneres Shares Her Thoughts Against Prop 8

Not only dominated by common people in the society, more and more celebrities also against California’s Proposition 8, and some of them are not hestitate to talk about it.

Famous talkshow host, Ellen DeGeneres who was just getting married last month to actress Portia de Rossi, definitely against the ballot initiative popularly known as Prop 8. She described the wording of Prop 8 as tricky. As the 50-year-old actress wrote on her blog, “There’s a California Proposition on the ballot that’s a little confusing …. It’s called, ‘The California Marriage Protection Act’ – but don’t let the name fool you” she added, “It’s not protecting anyone’s marriage. Not yours. Not mine”.

DeGeneres encouraged her fans to vote against it. The comedienne later put a joke in the post, “I can’t return the wedding gifts. love my new toaster”. Married last month, DeGeneres and de Rossi could be named the pioneers of same-sex marriage in California. They are finally happily married after waiting so long to be legalized, it’s no wonder that the couple are definitely against Prop 8 that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

Besides taking toll on the status of gay marriage, if it’s approved, Prop. 8 also threatens to take away important benefits like health insurance, eliminate protections for children, and complicate decision-making related to medical emergencies and other situations.

Celebrities like actor Brad Pitt has already making example by donating $100,000 last week, and director Steven Spielberg follow the actor’s footsteps last Tuesday. Hopefully there will be more acts to fight Prop 8, and the main goal can be reached. Keep up the good work!
