Melissa Etheridge Will Make It Official, Again

A legalized same-sex marriage in California apparently a dream come true for many gay couples who live there. And it is also exactly what Melissa Etheridge feels. The 47-year-old singer plans to legally tie the knot with her longtime partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, in the state where the couple resides.

The pair had actually exchanged vows five years ago in Malibu. But then, when earlier this year California’s Supreme Court ruled to allow gay marriage under the state’s constitution, Etheridge and Michaels had some thoughts to do the commitment ceremony again in California. As Etheridge said on Wednesday, “We’re trying to find the right time now actually to go down and do it – [that] is where we’re at”.

Etheridge and Michaels are now happily together and the proud parents of four children, two of them are twins, who will be turning 2 this month. Back in April 2006, the couple announced that Michaels was pregnant with twins via an anonymous sperm donor. Then on October 17, 2006, mommy Michaels gave birth to a son, Miller Steven, and a daughter, Johnnie Rose.

Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, and had since active speaking out about her experience to motivate others. She performs in many shows and events for breast cancer awareness. And once at 2005 Grammy Awards, Etheridge made a return to the stage after cancer treatment, appeared bald from chemotherapy, but very confident and brave performed a tribute to Janis Joplin with the song “Piece of My Heart.”. She was hugely praised for her performance, and it was considered one of the highlights of the show.
