Guy Ritchie Madonna Are Set to Divorce

It took 4 minutes to save the world, according to what she sings about, but it took seven and a half years of marriage, before worldwide diva Madonna took an end on her marriage to British film director Guy Ritchie.

The couple announced their plans to divorce Wednesday. And by that, the action ending months of speculation about their rocky relationship that had been talked about since the ‘Give It 2 Me’ singer got tangled in Alex Rodriguez’s (a.k.a A-Rod) scandal last July. As said by Madonna’s spokeswoman, “Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven and a half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time.”

Madonna and Ritchie married in December 2000 at Skibo Castle, in the Scottish Highlands. They have an eight-year-old son, Rocco, and a three-year-old son adopted in Malawi, David Banda. Madonna also has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from her relationship with her former fitness trainer Carlos Leon. She was once married to actor Sean Penn.

It was rumored that Ritchie, the director of British gangster films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, had pushed for the split. Ritchie was reportedly has become frustrated, as he sees his superstar spouse as a “dead weight around his neck” and now wants a divorce to be agreed quickly.

The pair own homes in London, Los Angeles and New York, but they live their daily life at 1,200-acre country estate in Wiltshire, England. The couple are reportedly worth some $525 million, with majority of the fortune belongs to Madonna. The director who has just released RocknRolla has an estimated $35 million fortune. A financial settlement has not been agreed by the wealthy couple, who also must decide child custody issues. Lawyers said the couple would likely try to come to an agreement before heading to court.

It’s a sad thing to see a great couple divorcing… but if this is the only way to do, may the path they choose is what’s best for both. Be strong Madonna, be strong Ritchie!
