Jennifer Hudson Establish a Foundation For Murder Victim Families

As a follow up from the tragedy that happened recently, singer Jennifer Hudson and her family announced Thursday a new foundation for families of murder victims.

It was named The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, in honor of Jennifer’s late mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King. In a statement, the family said, “The specific purpose of the Foundation is to care for the needs of families who have lost relatives to a violent crime. This encompasses their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter as well as grief counseling.”

A vigil prayer was held for the three victims Wednesday night at a the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church on the South Side of Chicago. According to Jennifer’s cousin, it was the place where Jennifer sang her first song. Rev. Jesse Jackson, who spoke at the vigil, said that Jennifer and her family “are overwhelmed by the suddenness and the unexpectedness of it all. This family knows triumph, and they also know tragedy.”

William Balfour, Julian’s stepfather and a ‘person of interest’ on this case remained in police custody Thursday. It was reported that he had refused to take a lie-detector test and has stopped cooperating with detectives. It was unclear whether Balfour had an attorney.

A funeral home announced Thursday that services for Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew will be held Monday morning. The service at Apostolic Church of God on Chicago’s South Side will be closed to the public. Well, may this foundation be a rainbow after the storm, for the Hudsons especially, and for others in general. Prayers and best wishes for the family always, be strong Jennifer and the Hudsons!
