Grey’s Anatomy Say Goodbye to Brooke Smith

Brooke Smith in Grey's Anatomy
Grey’s Anatomy is losing another soul in the operation table.
The medical drama has abruptly been written out Brooke Smith, who played Dr. Erica Hahn, Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Seattle Grace Hospital. Smith’s character had just begun a lesbian affair with Sara Ramirez’s character Dr. Callie Torres on the ABC show, but then as told by Smith, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes “just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore. It was the last thing I expected.”
Rimes was the one who broke the news to Smith, but the decision came down from the higher-ups at the ABC network. The character, Dr. Hahn, will appear on the show for the last time this Thursday. There’s no closure for Smith’s character, actually, because Dr. Hahn is simply seen heading to her car in the departure episode.
Dr. Hahn is the second role that got axed from the show. The first one is Dr. Preston Burke, played by Isaiah Washington, who being cut off from the show last year.
Smith’s reaction was definitely bumped. She said, “I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me.” Smith believed her sudden exit was because of her lesbian role, but Rhimes denied that the decision had anything to do with Smith’s gay storyline. As Rhimes said in a statement, “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run.”
Hmm… a mysterious ‘firing’ that is! It’s too bad Dr. Hahn won’t be in the show anymore, but hopefully Grey’s Anatomy will still survive after losing another member. Keep operating doctors!
