Heather Locklear Has Been Charged With DUI

Yesterday was not a happy day for Heather Locklear. The Melrose Place star was charged by prosecutors on Monday with DUI (driving under the influence) of prescription drugs.

Back in September, 47-year-old Locklear was arrested in the city of Montecito about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles when a California Highway Patrol officer found her car parked on a highway and blocking a traffic lane. A toxicology test showed Locklear had prescription medication in her system, but not alcohol or illegal drugs. Later that day, she was charged with a misdemeanor and not a more serious felony count.

It was said that she took the medication for her depression after her visit to a rehab clinic in June. The actress is expected to be arraigned on January 26, 2009. Her attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Locklear was a big name on television, especially after having an important role on TV series Melrose Place. She also appeared on T.J. Hooker, Dynasty, and Spin City. Her latest appearance is on Disney’s Hannah Montana TV series and Hannah Montana: The Movie, that will be released early next year. She is also a mother of 11-year-old Ava Elizabeth, daughter from her first marriage to ex-husband Bon Jovi’s guitarist, Richie Sambora.
