Suspect of Jennifer Hudson's Family Murders, William Balfour
Yesterday, Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law, William Balfour was charged with murder in the last month’s shooting of the actress’s family members, including his 7-year-old stepson.
As said by Chicago Police Department spokeswoman, Monique Bond, “We have obtained an arrest warrant for William Balfour. He was released to Chicago detectives.” She also added that Balfour would be charged with three counts of murder.
Balfour had been in custody since October 24. It was the day when the bodies of Hudson’s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were discovered in their South Side home.
The body of Julian King, Balfour’s stepson and Hudson’s nephew, was found in a sport utility vehicle three days later. Take a look at our archive on the incident here.
Balfour remained only as a “person of interest” in the investigation, but he is now charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony home invasion. He is also scheduled to appear Wednesday at a bond hearing.
Balfour’s defense attorney, Joshua Kutnick said his client is insistent about his innocence. As Kutnick said, “It is scary as hell, he’s charged with terrible crimes that he adamantly contends he’s not guilty of.” Still, added Kutnick, “He’s exhibited to me, at least, the patience to let the process unfold.”
Kutnick also stated, “He vehemently denies that he is guilty in this case. Any evidence pointing to Mr. Balfour is not even thin. It is very, very weak.”
Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis said at a news conference that although Balfour has not confessed to the crimes, he is “confident in the evidence.” Weis also praised the community for the way it “stepped up to the plate and helped police solve this case,” but would not provide any details.
The investigators also still have not said anything about what evidence they have linking Balfour to the killings, but said that they are not looking for other suspects and believe Balfour acted alone.
Jennifer Hudson’s publicist, Lisa Kasteler declined to comment after Balfour’s arrest, but the family was reportedly “relieved and happy that the Chicago Police Department would bring this case to a successful conclusion.”
Well, although it’s a small step, but definitely a significant progress of the case. May the Hudsons got their justice!

Balfour killed Julia’s family members because he thought she was “seeing another man”. But it was perfectly ok for him to have three “girlfriends”? This is the kind of situation that shows a complete lack of maturity, so the outcome shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The little peckerwood was MARRIED. What was he thinking? He shouldn’t have had one girlfriend, much less three. Estranged or not, you don’t have
“girlfriends” where you sleep overnight if you’re still married to someone else. He deserves whatever he gets.
