Another honor for the queen of talkshow, Oprah Winfrey.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or simply called PETA, has named Oprah Winfrey its “Person of the Year.” As said on a statement released by the organization, they choose Winfrey because of the efforts she has made through her talk show and other arenas “to help the less fortunate, including animals.”

PETA President, Ingrid E. Newkirk said on Friday that 54-year-old Winfrey has used her “powerful voice to defend those without one.” It does shows from many topics of Winfrey’s talkshow. Over the past year, Winfrey has done shows about puppy mills, the treatment of chickens and other animals living on factory farms, and the conditions that pigs and veal calves are subjected to before being put to slaughter.

Even in April, Winfrey dedicated an episode of her show to her late cocker spaniel, Sophie, who was 13. Winfrey had also went vegan (the 21-day cleanse program) at the behest of one of her guests. No wonder Oprah was chosen, right? Not only the honor, PETA will also send Winfrey an award plaque and a letter of appreciation. But too bad, Miss Winfrey was traveling and not available for comment.

May the award be another motivation and encouragement for Oprah, and may her good deeds spread all over. Congrats!!
