Lance Armstrong
Cycling athlete Lance Armstrong is going to be a father for the fourth time.
Armstrong and girlfriend Anna Hansen are expecting their first child together. The seven-time Tour de France champion said in a statement, “Anna and I are thrilled to confirm that we are expecting in June and our families are ecstatic and grateful. We are very much looking forward to what 2009 brings on many fronts.” He also added, “We appreciate respecting our privacy, as we are both eager to celebrate the holidays as a family.”
37-year-old Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. He underwent chemotherapy treatment as the cancer spread to other parts of his body. From his previous marriage with Kristin Richards, Armstrong has three children; 9-year-old Luke, and 7-year-old twins Isabella and Grace. All of them were conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm frozen prior to Armstrong undergoing chemotherapy (because it was initially thought that the chemotherapy would leave him unable to have further children). This time, the couple are expecting without the use of artificial fertilization.
Armstrong is reported busy preparing himself for Tour de France in 2009. The athlete who once retired, announced in September his return to competition, and his comeback was said as an attempt to raise global awareness in his fight against cancer.
Congrats for the couple!
