Nicole Kidman and Husband Donated 500,000 AUD for Australia’s Fire Victims

Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban give a great example of what big hearted means.

Following the fire tragedy that killed 181 people in Australia, as an actress that is loyal to her origin country, Nicole Kidman and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, have donated 500,000 Australian dollars, or 327,000 in US Dollars.

The generous act was first made by the joined forces of Australian Hollywood stars and sports legends. On late Thursday, the group helped raise funds for the tragedy in their native country through a telethon. As reported by the Nine television network, the act generated pledges of more than 20 million dollars for the fire relief effort.

And on its website, a statement said, “Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban led the way, personally donating 500,000 dollars to the Red Cross via the ‘Australia Unites’ telethon. The Aussie supercouple were joined by other Hollywood stars Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Rachel Griffiths and Simon Baker who sent recorded messages of support from the US.”

Alongside Kidman and Urban, actor Anthony LaPaglia and his wife Gia Carides donated 50,000 dollars. Canadian singer Michael Bublé also participated, he gave 50,000 dollars. A spokeswoman for the Red Cross said almost 66 million dollars had been raised for the relief fund through public donations, but “many millions more” had been pledged through the telethon and corporate and government donations.

Because of the fire, more than 5,000 people were made homeless and almost 2,000 homes were destroyed when the worst fires in the country’s history tore through towns in southeastern Victoria state this week.
