Pink Donated to Fire Victims in Australia
Another artist participate in the act to help Australia’s fire victims. It’s the So What singer, Pink.
The 29-year-old singer has donated 250,000 Australian dollars (equals to 163,000 US) to Australia’s wildfire victims as the disaster relief fund tops 100 million dollars. As the singer who regularly visit Australia to do some tours, Pink said she wanted to make a solid gesture of support after seeing images of disaster costs.
Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Alecia Moore, posted a statement on her official website talking about the tragedy, “I’ve been really affected by the media images of the tragic bush-fires in Victoria. My heart goes out to all those who have suffered so much in these circumstances.”
The Red Cross reported that their bushfire appeal had raised 106 million dollars by midday Tuesday, while The Salvation Army has raised almost 12 million dollars through its appeal. Red Cross chief executive Robert Tickner responding to the generous number of donations, by saying, “This is an incredible outpouring of generosity and support from the Australian people. We know that many millions more have been pledged through telethons and other fund raising events, from corporate Australia, from governments and from people as far away as the UK, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. It truly is an amazing response.”
Further action by Red Cross, the money would be used to provide immediate payments to support those bereaved, seriously injured or left homeless in the disaster, as well as longer-term rebuilding projects. The bushfires that were ignited February 7 in Victoria state have taken at least 189 lives until today as the country’s worst wildfire disaster.
Before Pink, Australian actress Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban had also participated, alongside many other celebrities, whether they are Australian native or not. Bless all of you generous hearted people, our prayers and best wishes for the victims.
