Monsters vs. Aliens Reigning the Box Office This Week!

Monsters VS Aliens
The latest animation movie from DreamWorks, Monsters vs. Aliens, get a big opening this week.
According to studio estimates Sunday, the action comedy launched itself to the top with a $58.2 million debut, and gained the title as the biggest debut so far in 2009, topping the $55.2 million first weekend of Watchmen early this month.
With the big numbers achieved by Monsters vs. Aliens, Hollywood revenues are boosted after a couple of down weekends. According to box-office tracker Media By Numbers, movies overall pulled in about $148 million, up 39 percent from the same weekend a year ago.
The movie features creatures from 1950s flicks in a showdown with invading extraterrestrials. And although it supposed to be scary and all (yeah well, it’s monsters and aliens), the characters are funny and (quite) adorable.
Reese Witherspoon acted as a vocal of Ginormica (or Susan), a woman who grows to nearly 50 feet after an encounter with a meteor. Other voice actors includes Seth Rogen, Kiefer Sutherland, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett and Stephen Colbert.
The movie is presented in 2-D and 3-D version, giving audience a broader choice. It’s a great movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Congrats!
