Last Saturday was a sad day for American Idol champ, David Cook. The singer’s older brother, Adam Cook died after battling brain cancer for more than a decade. He was 37.
The sad announcement was first released on David’s official website, saying that Adam leaves behind his wife, Kendra, and their children.
On Sunday morning before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C., David announced the news to the crowd, saying, “I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now.”
But although he is still in mourning, David served as grand marshal and running with a team in the race, which eventually raised more than $98,000 for the cause; finding a cure for brain cancer. I believe that’s what his brother Adam wanted to see, and hopefully the good deeds could help others with the same disease later in the future. Just like the Light On singer said, “I don’t run normally, but it seems a small sacrifice compared to what those who have fought cancer have endured. And the fact that my fans have rallied to raise so much in donations is the biggest compliment.”
Condolences came pouring for Cook’s family, including the one that came from Simon Cowell, one of Idol’s judges. “I was incredibly saddened to hear the news,” said Cowell. “I met Adam Cook a few times at American Idol. He was an incredible guy, and right now my thoughts are with David and his family.”
