Kiefer Sutherland Was Arrested for Minor Assault

Kiefer Sutherland, who is known for his role as special agent Jack Bauer in television series 24, was arrested on charges that he head-butted a fashion designer at a Manhattan party.

42-year-old Sutherland turned himself into police at a Manhattan station on Thursday. He was questioned, and later “arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge” said the duty officer at the New York Police Department. Sutherland was booked on one count of misdemeanor assault and was not jailed, remains free prior to a court appearance. His hearing is scheduled on June 22. The actor left the police station without commenting to reporters.

The incident started around 2 a.m. last Monday at an exclusive bar below The Mercer Hotel, following a glamorous event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Fashion designer Jack McCollough was reportedly stepped in between Sutherland and another woman, identified by media outlets as actress Brooke Shields.

According to unconfirmed newspaper accounts, Sutherland became irate when the designer bumped into Shields and got into an argument before headbutting him in the face. 30-year-old McCollough, who is Proenza Schouler creator, suffered facial injury from the incident. Although, it was reported only a broken nose.

With this assault matter, Sutherland’s legal situation may got even more complicated. That’s because by the fact he is currently on probation for drunk driving, which he endured from 2007 DUI case. Los Angeles officials have said they will decide if Sutherland violated his probation due to his arrest in New York. If so, he could face upwards of 10 months behind bars on top of the 48 days he already served.
