Apparently, this ain’t Sparta for Gerard Butler.

The 300 actor has been charged Wednesday with misdemeanor criminal battery by city prosecutors, in connection with a run-in with a paparazzo on October 7, 2008.

Prosecutors filed the charge in a Hollywood courthouse, and he is due in court for an arraignment on June 10. According to Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman, Frank Mateljan, Butler could face up to six months in jail and/or pay a $2,000 fine if convicted.

The smackdown reportedly occurred outside of L.A. hot spot Crown Bar at around 2 a.m., as Butler was leaving the premiere party for Guy Ritchie’s movie, RocknRolla. He hop into his limo, and allegedly popped a photog in the lips three or four times. Butler’s manager, Alan Siegel, said that the actor was forced to have his driver stop the car after being stalked by the paparazzo. The rep also claimed the paparazzo almost struck two pedestrians.

This 39-year-old Scottish actor is famously known for his role in 300. He will soon be seen in this summer’s romantic comedy called The Ugly Truth, alongside Katherine Heigl, and in the upcoming Law Abiding Citizen.
