Chace Crawford Will Star in ‘Footloose’ Remake

The decision is in, the next Kevin Bacon is Chace Crawford. The Upper East Sider Nate Archibald will be transformed into Ren McCormack. Hooray!

After weeks of negotiating, 22-year-old Chace Crawford officially signs to play the lead role in Footloose remake. The news was confirmed by Paramount Pictures on Tuesday, and expected to be officially announced to trade publications today.

The Gossip Girl star has been in the buzz for some time along with other candidates for the role, after High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron dropped out of the project last March. Crawford had been in contract negotiations and was struggling to make filming work around his tight schedule, especially because Gossip Girl is also due to start shooting its third season.

Crawford will be portraying Kevin Bacon’s character in the 1984 original, Ren McCormack, who is a teenager with strong passion in dancing and rock music. Ren and his classmates were determined to have a senior prom with music and dancing, although they had to face obstacles along the way.

The remake will be produced and directed by Kenny Ortega, the same director of High School Musical. In the movie, Crawford will be accompanied by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes, and Dancing With the Stars dancer Julianne Hough. It is set to begin shooting in March 2010.

Hopefully it will be a great remake, and I can’t wait to see Chace’s smooth moves!
