Night at the Museum Sequel Beats Terminator Sequel

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
It’s the battle of the sequels this week!
And too bad for Christian Bale’s Terminator, Ben Stiller’s Night at the Museum is the one who’s sitting at box office’s throne. The movie who tells another story of Larry Daley, a night guard at the museum, was winning the Memorial Day weekend box office.
According to studio estimates issued yesterday, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian sold $53.5 million worth of tickets across the United States and Canada from Friday to Sunday, while Terminator Salvation is down for $43 million.
The star-studded comedy far exceeded the $30.4 million debut of its 2006 predecessor, Night at the Museum. And also, Smithsonian is Stiller’s biggest-opening live-action movie ever. Fox, the movie’s studio, said that the film cost about $125 million to make. Definitely not a waste of money.
Beside Stiller, the movie has Robin Williams as former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt and Owen Wilson as Cowboy Jedediah portraying the same role they had in the first movie. New roles including Hank Azaria as Kahmunrah and Amy Adams as female aviator Amelia Earhart. So many new roles who are also funny (and even funnier) than the first movie.
Here’s the top ten of the weekend’s top-grossing films:
- Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, $53.5 million
- Terminator Salvation, $43 million
- Star Trek, $22 million
- Angels & Demons, $21.4 million
- Dance Flick, $11.1 million
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine, $7.8 million
- Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, $3.7 million
- Obsessed, $2 million
- Monsters vs Aliens, $1.3 million
- 17 Again, $1 million
Congrats Ben Stiller!
