Looks like Mel Gibson didn’t wait that long to start a new life with his girlfriend, although he’s still officially married to wife Robyn. It is only six weeks after Robyn Gibson filed for divorce, but Gibson and his Russian musician girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, are now expecting a baby.

The 53-year-old actor is not shy to share the happy news when he appeared in Monday night’s taping of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. As Gibson confirmed, “This is true, we’re having a child.” And since this will be his eighth child, Gibson also added jokingly, “I guess I’m ‘Octo-Mel’”, as a comparison to Nadya Suleman, the Octo-Mom.

Gibson has seven kids with his wife of 28 years, Robyn. Probably Gibson’s moving on is a bit too soon for some people, but in his divorce response that was filed on the same day as Robyn’s, Gibson said that he and his wife separated almost three years ago.

The Braveheart star told Leno he met Grigorieva last year after the singer/pianist had been signed to his Icon Records label. Their first public appearance were about a month ago at an industry screening of X-Men Wolverine: Origins in Los Angeles. 39-year-old Grigorieva is now in her second trimester and due in the late fall.

A friend of the actor also commented about the pregnancy, “He couldn’t be happier. He loves being a father.” The close source also added that Grigorieva’s pregnancy was not the catalyst for Gibson’s divorce, saying that Gibson didn’t even know Oksana was pregnant when he and estranged wife both filed for divorce.

For Gibson this will be his eighth time being a father, and for Grigorieva this will be her second. She has a son with former boyfriend, actor Timothy Dalton. More on the happy news, it is reported that the pregnancy news won’t complicated Gibson’s divorce. According to an L.A. family lawyer who’s not involved with the case, Michael Trope, “This pregnancy won’t have any effect on Mel Gibson’s pending divorce. Just having a girlfriend alone is only relevant if Mel spent large sums of community money on her during his marriage.”

Without any indication the ex-couple had a prenup, Robyn is legally entitled to half of Gibson’s fortune, estimated at close to $1 billion. Because of this, experts agree this divorce won’t be messy and will probably resolve quietly in several months.
