T.R. Knight is Checking Out from Grey’s Anatomy

Sad news for Grey’s Anatomy’s fans… especially those who are George’s fans, including me :(

It’s official. The actor who play the role of Dr. George O’Malley, T.R. Knight, is leaving the show. An inside source had confirmed the sad news, but also informing a good news, that is Katherine Heigl who play Dr. Izzie Stevens will remain as a staff in the Seattle Grace hospital.

Last season’s finale in May left the fate of George and Izzie unclear, with both characters at death’s door. Rumors had spread since that about the two cast, will they or won’t they stay on the show.

The source explains that in addition to feeling his character was not getting juicy enough plot lines, 36-year-old Knight was uncomfortable with the spotlight cast on him as a result of show’s success. According to the source, “From some people’s point of view, T.R. doesn’t realize how good he has it being on a hit show and making the money he’s making. But I don’t know that he ever wanted that. He might be better off going and doing theater. Money doesn’t matter very much to him, and he likes to lead a private life.”

A publicist for the show’s network ABC had no comment on the news, and nor Knight’s rep. Hopefully it was the right decision for Knight, although I believe many fans will miss him a lot. Goodbye George!
