Drea de Matteo Joins Desperate Housewives

As Nicolette Sheridan leaving the Wisteria Lane, a newcomer will be coming to the neighborhood.

The show’s network, ABC had confirmed through their publicist, Aime Wolfe, that actress Drea de Matteo will be joining the cast of Desperate Housewives for season six. Wolfe did not provide any further details, but sources said De Matteo will portray an Italian matriarch whose husband is a landscape designer.

Her character is pretty much Edie-like, after the original Edie (played by Nicollette Sheridan) got killed last season. De Matteo is expected to bring some freshness in the show.

De Matteo had previously known for her role in The Sopranos, as a mob girlfriend-turned-FBI informant. She later starred on the short-lived sitcom Joey, alongside Matt Le Blanc. She recently got engaged to country singer Shooter Jennings, with whom she has an 18-month-old daughter, Alabama.
