Staples Center Where Michael Jackson's Memorial Will Be Held
Not only will be attended by family, Michael Jackson’s funeral will be filled with so many stars.
Among hundreds of the King of Pop’s famous friends, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, and his We Are the World co-writer Lionel Richie will participate in Jackson’s memorial today at Staples Center, Los Angeles. Both Carey and Hudson are reportedly will be performing.
Michael’s former girlfriend in the 80’s, actress Brooke Shields will also be there, as will R&B star Usher, fellow musician Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Smokey Robinson, Motown’s Berry Gordy and Lakers star Kobe Bryant. Rev. Al Sharpton, the AndraĆ© Crouch Choir, Martin Luther King III, Bernice A. King, family friends Ron Boyd and Pastor Lucious Smith don’t want to miss the event too.
But one of his best friend, Elizabeth Taylor, twittered that she won’t be coming to the memorial. As she wrote, “I wouldn’t go to the Staples Center and I certainly don’t want to become a part of it. I love him too much…I just don’t believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others. How I feel is between us. Not a public event.”
His ex-wife Debbie Rowe is following Taylor’s footsteps, won’t be coming to the memorial. Rowe’s lawyers said that the mother of the star’s two oldest children’s “attendance would be an unnecessary distraction to an event that should focus exclusively on Michael’s legacy” and that she “will continue to celebrate Michael’s memory privately.”
Around 17,500 fans have been given tickets to the late singer’s memorial, although more than 1.6 million fans registered to try and obtain tickets to the event. The Michael Jackson memorial will air live in its entirety on dozens of outlets, including E! and E! Online, and even in selected movie theaters.
