The celebration event of television industry, the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards was held at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles Sunday night. It was crowded by a lot of famous names, and added happiness to many proud winners.
The Bold and the Beautiful -finally- won outstanding drama series, the first winning of the CBS soap opera in 22 years on the air. It’s a great honor for the cast and crew, but unfortunately the live telecast on the CW went off the air just as they were assembling on the stage to accept its trophy.
This year’s Emmy also marked an end for Guiding Light, which was cancelled after a 72-year run. The show will no longer on air, but it left with no empty handed, as actor Jeff Branson won the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, which a tie with All My Children’s Vincent Irizarry.
Others who took home the Emmys are Rachael Ray and The Tyra Banks Show, both won the talk show categories at the Daytime Emmy Awards for the second consecutive year. Amazing achievement also reached by the women of The View who successfully took home an Emmy, and therefore ended Ellen DeGeneres’ four-year reign as best talk show host.
Drama series lead acting honors went to Christian LeBlanc of The Young and the Restless, and Susan Haskell of ABC’s One Life to Live. ABC was chosen as the top network, with 17 awards, followed by public broadcaster PBS with 16. ABC had led the field with 50 nominations.
The night that was hosted by Ugly Betty star, Vanessa Williams, then awarded the loveable characters of PBS’ Sesame Street with a Lifetime Achievement Award for educating and entertaining children for 40 years.
