Antonio Banderas Opened Up About Melanie Griffith’s Rehab Decision

Antonio Banderas is one awesome husband!

At least, that’s what we can tell after watching yesterday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where the Latino hunk sat down with Ellen talking about his wife, actress Melanie Griffith’s decision to enter a rehab clinic recently.

He confirmed that the rehab time was taken to conquer Griffith ’s addiction to pain medication, not because their 15-year-old marriage was in trouble as some tabloids claimed. “It was said actually in some magazine that I gave an ultimatum to my wife. That I present the matter of divorce because she has been involved in addictions and blah, blah, blah.” said the 49-year-old actor.

Banderas also informed that 52-year-old Griffith had been sober for six years until she suffered a ski accident a year and a half ago and started popping painkillers. As the Desperado star shared, “In March, she came to me and said, ‘I’m feeling a little bit weak in my determination for this… so I just thought to go to rehabilitation by myself.’… I’m very proud of her.”

The voice behind Shrek’s Puss In Boots character also gave a shout-out to the “invisible heroes working in AA all around the world” and encouraged those with similar issues to seek help. “I just say to families, don’t get embarrassed—just confront this problem head-on. And don’t hide from that, because there is a beautiful gift at the end of this tunnel, and it is [having] the person you love back. That is what I am searching for.”
