Sad news coming from actress Maura Tierney.
44-year-old Boston-born Tierney announcing her departure from NBC upcoming drama series, Parenthood. The reason behind her decision is because of a scheduling conflict between the show’s production and her breast cancer treatments.
In a statement released Thursday by her rep, Tierney expressed her disappointment at not being part of the show, “Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank (writer/executive producer) Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”
Meanwhile, NBC also expressed their loss through a statement read by the network’s spokesman, “While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won’t be able to continue in her current role in ‘Parenthood,’ our main concern is for her quick and full recovery. Our thoughts and best wishes are with her.”
Parenthood was originally slated to premiere this fall, but when Tierney discovered that she had breast cancer in early July, NBC chose to postpone the series for two months to allow the actress time for her treatment. Tierney plays one of the central characters, and she had filmed the pilot episode for the series. Too bad she won’t be in the series anymore.
The series that was based on the 1989 movie that starred Steve Martin, is now scheduled to premiere in midseason on NBC. Get well soon Maura!
