Kanye West Apologizes to Taylor Swift for His Act at the MTV VMA 2009

Kanye West should learn some patience and manners.

Country sweetheart, Taylor Swift received the first award of this year’s MTV VMA last Sunday, the Best Female Video Award, besting Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink and Kelly Clarkson. She was just starting her acceptance speech, “I always wondered what it would be like to maybe win one of these someday, but never actually thought it would happen.”

But then West thought it’s time to make another outburst. The rapper jumped onstage and pulled the microphone from her hand, saying, ” Taylor , I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” The crowd were jaw-dropping, a shocked Beyonce was seen, and Swift was then ushered off the stage, making her speech left unfinished.

Fortunately, Beyonce was there to save the day. When the queen B won Video of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), she recalled her first Video Music Awards, “This is amazing. I remember being 17-years-old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life,” and then she invited Swift back on stage, “so I would like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”

A nervously smiling Swift came out and said, “Maybe we can try this again?” She continued, thanking “all my fans on Twitter and MySpace and everyone who came out to my shows this summer.”

The audience at the Radio City Music Hall booed West’s name later in the show. And rumors said that 32-year-old West exited stage left immediately after the incident. After the show, 19-year-old Swift recalled the outburst moment, “I was standing on stage and I was really excited because I’d just won the award and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then, um, I wasn’t excited anymore after that.”

On the other hand, Swift also praised Beyonce, saying, “”It was so wonderful and gracious of her. She’s always been a great person and I thought I couldn’t love Beyoncé more and tonight happened and it was just wonderful.”

After the incident, West posted an apology on his blog using his usual all-caps writing, “I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED… I’M SORRY TO MY FANS IF I LET YOU GUYS DOWN!!!! I’M SORRY TO MY FRIENDS AT MTV. I WILL APOLOGIZE TO TAYLOR 2MRW.”

But when asked about West’s erratic act, sweet Swift said, “I don’t know him and I don’t want to start anything. I had a great night tonight. I’ve been getting so many text messages and everybody’s been really really nice. I’ve had a really fun night. It’s definitely been an interesting night.”

It’s an interesting night, alright. Just remember about your winning, Taylor . Congratulations!
