Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Orlando Bloom, must be honored as he was named a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations children’s organization UNICEF on Monday.

32-year-old Bloom has supported the work of UNICEF since 2007, when he first visited schools in impoverished districts of Nepal . He also took part in a local school radio production put on by children in one of the poorest regions of Nepal . Not only that, he also had visited projects in Russia and Sarajevo that bring clean water, education and shelters to children.

The organization said that as its ambassador, Bloom plans to focus on raising awareness of the global organization and advocating for needy children worldwide. UNICEF executive director, Ann M. Veneman said that the work of goodwill ambassadors “helps build momentum to improve the lives of children around the world.” Veneman added, “We are proud to have Orlando Bloom as one of the strong voices for vulnerable children.”

In a statement, the British star said, “I look forward to working with UNICEF as they continue to make the world a better place for children.” With this new title, Bloom follows other celebrities’ footsteps, such as actress Audrey Hepburn, soccer player David Beckham, Colombian singer Shakira and actress Mia Farrow.

Well, good luck on your new responsibilities, Orlando !
