Leona Lewis must have not guess what would hit her. Apparently, it’s not what, it’s a who.
On Wednesday, the Bleeding Love singer was punched by a fan while signing copies of her autobiography, Dreams, at a Waterstone’s bookstore in the upmarket Piccadilly district of London. Lewis had been signing copies of her autobiography for around 90 minutes when “a guy came up and punched her to the side of the head,” the singer’s spokesman said.
In a statement, her rep detailed about the incident, “Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack this afternoon at her book signing. The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings.”
A Scotland Yard spokesman Eddie Townsend had confirmed the incident, saying, “Police were called at 4:35 this afternoon to the Waterstone’s in Piccadilly to reports of an assault against a female. Police attended and arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of actual bodily harm. He is currently in custody.”
Meanwhile, an eyewitness at the store in Picadilly also shared, “[the attacker] walked up there with the book, she signed it and, as she looked up, he just punched her.” Waterstone’s bookstore released a statement about the incident, saying they were supporting any police investigation and thanking Lewis for her professionalism.
The three-time Grammy Award nominee reportedly did not need to go to the hospital, but she did pull out of a scheduled appearance on BBC’s The One Show that night. The 24-year-old British talent show (The X Factor) winner recently released a new single entitled Happy, that could be heard along with other songs from her sophomore album, Echo, due November 17.
Hopefully you’re alright, Leona. Don’t be traumatized, okay?
