Sad news for Beyonce’s fans in Malaysia!
The R&B star has postponed her concert in Malaysia planned for this weekend, as said by the event’s organizer said Monday. She was scheduled to perform on Sunday, October 25, at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, two years after she cancelled her debut concert at the same country amid fears of protests by conservative Muslim groups. At that time, the Single Ladies singer redirected her concert to Indonesia.
The decision was rumored as a result from accusations by Islamic conservatives that the show would be immoral, although it was denied by the organizer. In a statement, event organizer Marctensia said, “The postponement is solely the decision of the artiste and has nothing to do with other external reasons.” They also added that the show “has been postponed to a future date to be announced shortly.”
28-year-old Beyonce is known for her sexy stage outfits and dance routines. The conservative Pan-Malaysian Islamic party (PAS) has called for a ban on Beyonce’s performance, said the event should be cancelled outright rather than merely be postponed. According to PAS youth chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi, “We are not against entertainment, but it’s the way she performs — her gyrating moves on stage and her sexy outfits. It will erode the moral values of our young people.”
Before Beyonce, PAS has called for Danish band Michael Learns to Rock to be banned from performing in September, saying it was an insult to Muslims during the fasting month of Ramadan. While last month, US hip-hop band the Black Eyed Peas finally performed after a ban on Muslims was lifted, although frontwoman Fergie was forced to cover up.
Why don’t you headed back to Indonesia again, B? We’ll be gladly to have you here!
