Ryan Seacrest got his early justice against a stalker.
Prosecutors in Los Angeles on Monday charged a 25 year-old man with stalking American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, after he allegedly violated a stay-away order, and instead went to the building where Seacrest works.
Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr., an Army reservist, reportedly was wielding a knife when police arrested him Friday at the Los Angeles offices of entertainment outlet E!, where Seacrest does his radio show and a television newscast.
Last Friday was not Uzomah’s first brush with the law related to his Seacrest obsession. He had pleaded guilty in September to attacking Seacrest’s security guard outside a charity event at a hospital, and he was ordered to stay away from the television host. Not only that, he is also alleged to have appeared at the offices of Los Angeles radio station KIIS FM on October 2 looking for the popular host.
Regarding his stalker, a declaration for the restraining order that was written by Seacrest on Friday stated, “His aggressive and violent efforts to come into physical contact with me are extremely frightening to me. They have jeopardized not only my personal safety, but also the safety and well-being of those around me.”
Uzomah faces up to four years in prison if convicted of the stalking charge. He remains jailed on $150,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Los Angeles. More from the case, Los Angeles County prosecutors also charged Uzomah with two misdemeanor counts of attempting to disobey a court order by trying to see Seacrest.
