The King of Pop is still high-priced!
Another item related to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has again got sold with a great price. A silk-screened portrait of Michael Jackson that was created by Andy Warhol in Jackson’s Thriller era, has sold for $812,500 to an anonymous collector.
The 1984 portrait that depicts a smiling Jackson in a jacket with squiggles of red and yellow in his hair was sold at Christie’s in New York City Tuesday evening. According to the auction house, the artwork was estimated would be sold for $500,000 to $700,000, but apparently it exceeded the expectation.
The auction house also said the seller is an anonymous private collector based in New York who bought the image from the Andy Warhol Foundation in the 1990s. They did not say who bought the artwork. Besides Jackson’s image, there are other 47 lots auctioned Tuesday, including two other Warhol paintings.
That’s what we call a price for a collection!
