Sharon Stone has made some headlines this past week. It’s all began from her statement on an interview in Cannes. When asked about the earthquake in China -Sichuan Province of Beichuan, to be exact-, this is what she said:

“I’m not happy about the way that the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And so I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do because I don’t like that. Then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice, that the bad things happen to you?”.

Apparently her ignorance statement about the disaster that had reached over than 60 thousand people died, hundreds of thousand are injured or missing, one of the most devastating recorded natural disasters in history, has became a boomerang.

Stone is a model for Christian Dior, and the company’s Shanghai office issued the statement as a feedback to hers. Because of that, Christian Dior has dropped Sharon Stone from its Chinese ads and Stone would no longer appear in the company’s advertisements in China.

Stone’s comments caused considerable anger in the Chinese media, and critics from media all over the world. The official Xinhua News Agency said in a commentary Thursday she was the “public enemy of all mankind.”

Christian Dior released a statement from the actress apologizing for saying China’s earthquake may have been bad karma for its treatment of Tibet. The “Basic Instinct’ star said she was “deeply sorry” for causing anguish and anger among Chinese people. They quoted, “Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people”.

About her apology, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said he had taken note of Stone’s apology. “We hope that as an actress she should contribute to our two peoples’ mutual trust, understanding and friendship”, he said.

This is one thing that Sharon Stone will always remember, and hopefully learn from her mistakes, so that no more ignorance comments came out of her in the future. Big condolences to all people of China, may they strengthen each other out of this misery.
