Naomi Campbell is usually made headlines with news about her bad attitude, but this time, it’s about her good deed.
The supermodel gave her Hermes “It” bag in an auction for charity, and it was sold nicely. The pale green alligator Hermes ‘Birkin’ bag had been estimated at between 12,000 to 15,000 euros, but then finally fetched 21,000 euros (31,500 dollars) at an auction Tuesday. Niiiceee, right?
It was sold by French auctioneers Artcurial, with the intention to raise funds to fight deaths in pregnancy, a tragedy affecting over half a million women a year. Proceeds are to go to the White Ribbon Alliance for ‘Safe Motherhood’, the international charity who works to increase public awareness about the loss of life
from pregnancy-related complications, and to promote safe motherhood worldwide.
Before Campbell’s auction, the bag that was touted by many celebrities and socialites worldwide, had previously reached an even higher price at another auction. A British-born singer and actress Jane Birkin, the one who inspired the bag’s name, sold her own in 2007 for 74,000 euros (108,000 dollars) and then donated the proceeds to a human rights group. It was an all time record for a leather handbag at the time.
Great job, Naomi!
