French President Nicolas Sarkozy awarded Clint Eastwood a commander in the prestigious French Legion of Honor for his great contribution to France entertainment industry. The 79-year-old American highly acclaimed actor and director is being honored for his work, longevity and ability to delight audiences around the globe.

The ceremony took place on Friday at the Elysee Palace, Paris, France. Eastwood thanked Sarkozy and the French, “This is a wonderful honor. It is just a great pleasure for me. I really love France. I love movies, and I love the appreciation that the French people have for movies.” Stating those lines in English, he promised to be fluent in French the next time he returned to the country.

Legion of Honor is created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. It recognizes outstanding military, cultural, scientific or social contributions to French, including by those other than French citizens.
