A nude photo of film director Roman Polanski, who is now being held in a Swiss prison, and his wife Sharon Tate taken shortly before she was brutally murdered, will be sold at an upcoming auction in New York.

The black and white photo that was taken by British photographer David Bailey in 1969 will be sold by Christie’s in New York on December 7. Organizers said, estimation price of the 33-inch-by-33 1/4-inch print is about $8,000 to $12,000.

The large-scale gelatin silver print was printed in 1988 when it was earmarked for a traveling photography exhibition. The picture that shows the topless couple embracing has been previously published in Bailey’s book, Goodbye Baby & Amen: A Saraband for the Sixties.

Although the price has been estimated, but a sale figure could go higher given Polanski’s renewed notoriety since his September arrest in Switzerland, stemming from a conviction -more than two decades ago- in California for having sex with a minor.

Back in 1977, now 76-year-old Polanski was accused of plying a 13-year-old girl with champagne and a Quaalude pill and then raping her. He fled the United States the day he was to be sentenced on a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Polanski was known as a director of several successful movies, such as Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown, and even won the Academy Award for best director from his 2002 movie, The Pianist.
