The world’s number 1 golfer Tiger Woods was hospitalized after his car crashed early Friday.

The 33-year-old champion ran his 2009 Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and a neighbor’s tree while leaving his Florida mansion around 2:25 a.m. Apparently the airbags in his car did not deploy, indicating that he was traveling at under 33 mph.

Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor said that Wood’s wife Elin helped him out of the car. She used a golf club to break the back window. She was in the house when she heard the accident.

Woods was then taken to a North Central Hospital. But he was no longer a patient by 2 p.m., according to hospital officials. Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan said that Woods was treated well and released in good condition, while Saylor said he suffered facial lacerations.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident was not alcohol-related, but it is still under investigation. Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes said that Woods was alone in the car. It was unclear if he was wearing a seat belt, and it was unknown yet how and why his car hit the hydrant and the tree. Charges could be filed if there was a clear indication of traffic violation.

Woods is known as the greatest golfer the world has ever known. He has won 82 times around the world and 14 majors. He won 6 times this year after missing 8 months recovering from a left knee reconstructive surgery.
