CBS Gains Protests for Blurring Adam Lambert Kissing Scene

A blurred clip of singer Adam Lambert kissing another guy on the CBS morning program The Early Show on Wednesday triggered complaints from those who said Lambert had been subjected to a double standard. Why it was blurred, while the scene of Madonna kissing Britney Spears was not, they said.

In the video the American Idol finalist who gave a sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards on Sunday was interviewed. CBS blurred it exactly at the scene of Lambert kissing his male keyboardist.

Jarrett Barrios, the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance against Defamation, said, “I would have hoped CBS would provide the same treatment for images of gay and lesbian people and not create an unfair double standard that treats our community differently.” He referred to the scene of Madonna kissing Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, which was not blurred at all.

CBS’s representative told the entertainment program “Extra” that the image of Madonna and Spears kissing to each other was, “Very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television.”
