Roman Polanski (N/A)

After a $4.5 million bail, Roman Polanski was out of prison on Friday. The 76-year-old director is currently undergoing a house arrest at his Swiss chalet. The L.A. prosecutors have not succeeded to extradite him back to the land of United States of America after all.

“Polanski has undertaken not to leave his house and property at any time,” the Swiss government stated. The Swiss Ministry of Justice had previously refused Polanski’s bail attempt, fearing that he might have fled.

Polanski was greeted at the luxurious ski resort of Gstaad, Switzerland by his children, the 9-year-old Elvis and the 16-year-old Morgane, and his wife, actress Emmanuelle Seigner.

He will be restricted to his chalet, under the terms of the bail, which is expected to only heighten the debate about his 30-year-old case.

Polanski pleaded guilty in 1978 to having illegal sex with a 13-year-old girl at Jack Nicholson’s home. But he fled to Europe before sentencing and got caught in Zurich as he went there for a film festival.

About his release, Polanski said none. He drove straight into an underground garage, leaving more than 200 journalists outside his chalet without any comment.
