The Princess and the Frog Reigns at Box Office

The Princess and the Frog
Disney’s animated The Princess and the Frog was on the top of North American box office in its first weekend screenings, according to studio estimates from Nielsen EDI.
The first Afro-American princess fairy tale sold for tickets worth of $25 million.
“It’s one of those classic Disney fairy tales and people just fell in love with it,” Chuck Viane, head of domestic distribution at Walt Disney Co’s Buena Vista unit, said.
Viena also believes that The Princess and the Frog will, “Deliver a very strong multiple of the opening weekend.”
Though it is supposed to be a family movie, The Frog and the Princess has drawn adults’ attention. Nearly one in five moviegoers came to the theaters without children, according to Disney exit polling.
“That’s the number that’s sweetest,” Viane said. “We knew families were going to come. But we didn’t know about the adults without kids.”
The Princess and the Frog offers a musical story on Tiana, a waitress in jazzy New Orleans, and a prince cursed into a frog. She kisses the frog to break the spell, but turns into a frog instead. They then find themselves in an adventurous journey in the bayou, trying to find a way back to be human.
