Brigitte Bardot Got Convicted

Former ‘hot’ actress in the 60’s, Brigitte Bardot, was convicted Tuesday of provoking discrimination and racial hatred for writing that Muslims are destroying her country in a letter to French’s President, Nicolas Sarkozy. She also had to pay around $23,000 and has to pay $1,555 in damages to a French anti-racism group (known as MRAP).

After her retirement from the entertainment industry in the 1970s, Bardot established herself as an animal rights activist. This 73-year-old actress wrote the letter in December 2006, to Sarkozy, then-Interior Minister, because she was pissed off over the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated by slaughtering sheep. She wrote, “I’ve had enough of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts”.

This is her fifth race-related conviction in the past 11 years. Bardot’s lawyer, Francois-Xavier Kelidjian, said he would talk to her about the possibility of an appeal. “She is tired of this type of proceedings,” he said. “She has the impression that people want to silence her. She will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights”.
