The Rev R.I.P (N/A)

It’s a sad day for the world of heavy metal, as James Owen Sullivan, a drummer for Avenged Sevenfold has died.

Sullivan, who was nicknamed ‘The Rev’, was found dead Monday at his home in Huntington Beach, Southern California. According to the police, the 28-year-old musician appeared to have died of natural causes. But to be more sure, the Orange County Coroner’s Office is investigating his death.

Great loss was expressed by Sullivan’s bandmates, through the statement they posted on their website, “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy’s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Avenged Sevenfold was formed in 1999, with Sullivan as one of the found fathers. The band was named Best New Artist in a Video for Bat Country at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, the band hit No. 4 on the U.S. pop album chart in 2007 with its most recent album, a self-titled release that was sold more than 500,000 copies.

Sullivan and other bandmates; M Shadows (Matt Sanders), Synyster Gates (Brian Haner Jr.), Zacky Vengeance (Zachary Baker) and Johnny Christ (Jon Seward), were announced their plans to record another studio album for Warner Music Group Corp. Too bad he won’t be able to finish working on it.

A day after Sullivan’s shocking death, an autopsy is said inconclusive as to the cause of his death. Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said Tuesday that the coroner’s office ordered toxicology, microscopic and laboratory tests to help determine why Sullivan died. It’s expected to take several weeks to get the results of the tests.

So long, The Rev… we’ll miss your performance!
