Female singers dominate this year’s Grammy. Girl power rocks!

The bootylicious Beyoncé took home six Grammy awards, making her the #1 artist in trophy earnings. She took Song of the Year, Female R&B Vocal Performance, and R&B song award with her anthem Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It), while her Halo single gave her Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Although Beyonce owned the most award of the evening, but the top Grammy honor of Album of the Year goes to country sweetheart, Taylor Swift, with her sophomore album, Fearless. 20-year-old Swift won a total of four awards, cannot hide her joy when announced as the top honor winner. She took the stage, and said, “Oh wow — thank you so much! I just hope that you know how much this means to me…. that we get to take this back to Nashville.” She added, “Oh my God, our families are freaking out in their living rooms. My dad and my little brother are losing their minds in the living room right now.”

With this year’s earnings, Beyonce became the first artist to reach the ‘five Grammys’ mark twice. Her first mark was made in 2004, with the debut album, Dangerously in Love. The mark is still tied by other awesome female singers, such as Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Alison Krauss. In one of her acceptance speeches, the 28-year-old Beyonce said, “This has been such an amazing night for me and I’d love to thank the Grammys.”

More from female singers, Lady Gaga won two Grammys during the pre-telecast ceremony. She didn’t get a chance to show her gratitude speech on air, but made quite an outstanding performance (and outrages costume, a sequined green leotard with massive shoulders), when she kicked off the night with her Grammy-nominated hit Poker Face. She then brought out Elton John as they melded her song Speechless and his classic Your Song together in a performance that featured dueling pianos, and glitter-painted faces.

The Black Eyed Peas also had three trophies, as well as Jay-Z, who won for best rap solo performance and two awards for Run This Town with Rihanna and Kanye West. The show also included a special 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson featuring a video clip he made of Earth Song as Usher, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson sang along.

Jackson’s young children, 12-year-old Prince Michael and 11-year-old Paris Jackson, accepted a lifetime achievement award for their late father. Prince closed his speech with a vow to continue to spread his father’s message of love. “Through all his songs, his message was simple – love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you. We love you daddy.”
