George Takei Will be Married to His Longtime Partner

The actor who’s famously known as Hikaru Sulu from Star Trek, George Takei, has obtained his marriage license to his longtime partner, Brad Altman. This 71-year-old actor who has been in the relationship with 54-year-old Altman for the last 21 years, becoming one of the first gay Californians to obtain a license since the state Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriages last month.

He received a marriage license from the City of West Hollywood on Tuesday morning (6/17), and giving a joyful statement, “We are first and foremost beyond delighted! It’s a landmark day”. West Hollywood previously did not issue licenses to gay or straight couples.

On May 16, 2008, Takei announced that he and Brad Altman would be getting married on September 14th, at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American national Museum in Los Angeles, where Takei is one of the founders. He chose Walter Koenig as his best man, and Nichelle Nichols as the matron of honor. The actor who played as Hiro Nakamura’s father in Heroes series, Kaito Nakamura, will be married in front of family and friends, including some of his cast mates in Star Trek.
